There's something genuinely special about throwing a leg over a bike and pointing it toward the open road — but doing it with your mates? That's a whole other level. New Zealand's South Island is one of the great motorcycle destinations on the planet, and at Epic Ride, we've made it easier (and more affordable) than ever to bring your group here and ride it properly.

Whether you're a riding club planning an annual trip, a group of mates finally making it happen, or an international motorcycle tour operator looking for a trusted New Zealand ground operator — we've got a setup that fits.

Three Ways to Ride with Your Group

We keep it flexible, because no two groups are the same.

Rental only is perfect if your group likes to do things on your own terms. Grab the bikes — choose from our fleet of BMWs, KTMs, Hondas, and more, with mostly under three years old — and head off wherever you like. We'll sort you with panniers, a top box, and unlimited kilometres. The road is yours.

Self-guided touring is a step up. You still ride at your own pace, but we take care of the planning. Every bike comes loaded with a GPS unit pre-programmed with hand-picked scenic routes, so your custom motorcycle itinerary is ready to go from day one. Accommodation is sorted night by night (twin share from day one), and if your route crosses Cook Strait, the ferry is included too. You just show up and ride.

Fully guided tours are for groups who want the whole experience handed to them. A professional local lead rider joins your group, fuel is covered, breakfast is included every morning, and you'll share one special group dinner along the way. Airport pickups and drop-offs are sorted, and our Christchurch base — just five minutes from the airport — is your luggage storage hub throughout.

The 8-Day and 12-Day Tours — And Beyond

Our 8-day South Island Sojourn and 12-day South Island loop are our most popular group packages, and they're a great place to start — but they're not the end of the story.

The 8-day tour starts in Christchurch and takes riders through some of the South Island’s most memorable landscapes, from alpine roads and lakeside routes to dramatic coastlines and glacier country. The 12-day loop goes further, giving your group more time to experience Queenstown, the legendary road into Milford Sound, Invercargill — home of Burt Munro — Dunedin, the Rakaia Gorge and more.

Both tours are designed as starting points, not fixed itineraries. Want an extra day in Queenstown? Rather spend a night at Aoraki/Mount Cook? Prefer to stay South Island the whole time? We can work with that. Our team is happy to build a custom motorcycle itinerary around the group's experience level, riding style, and bucket list. Think of our 8 and 12-day tours as the bones; we help you build the rest around them.

Multilingual Guides — English, Mandarin, Cantonese and More

One of the things that makes a guided tour genuinely enjoyable is being able to communicate easily — swapping stories at the end of the day, understanding the briefing each morning, asking about that road you just rode. We get that.

Our guides are fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese, making Epic Ride one of the very few New Zealand motorcycle tour operators catering directly to Chinese-speaking groups. Whether you're travelling from mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, or Malaysia, you can ride with a guide who speaks your language. For other languages, just ask — we do our best to accommodate on request, so get in touch early and we'll let you know what's available for your dates.

For B2B partners building Asia-Pacific itineraries, this is a genuine point of difference worth highlighting to your clients.

For Tour Operators: Your New Zealand Ground Operator

When the roads dry up back home, New Zealand is just getting started. New Zealand's prime riding season runs November through March — exactly when Europe, North America, and much of Asia hit their off-season. If you're running motorcycle tours in the northern hemisphere and looking at quiet months on the calendar, this is your window.

Epic Ride works directly with international motorcycle tour companies as a trusted New Zealand ground operator, providing full end-to-end support so you can run a tour under your own brand without the headache of managing logistics from the other side of the world. Whether you're based in Europe, the US, the UK, or Asia, we handle everything on the ground: fleet supply, custom motorcycle itinerary building, multilingual lead riders (English, Mandarin, and Cantonese, with other languages on request), accommodation logistics, airport transfers from Christchurch, Auckland, or Queenstown, and GPS-loaded routes across the South Island's finest roads — West Coast, Haast Pass, Milford Sound, Arthur's Pass, and the Mackenzie Basin.

Your clients get a seamless New Zealand motorcycle tour. You keep the relationship. We keep the wheels turning.

FAQs

What support can Epic Ride NZ provide for commercial motorcycle tour operators?

Epic Ride NZ can provide full local ground support for commercial motorcycle tour operators bringing riders to New Zealand — even if you only need to use our rental bikes.

We can support your tour with motorcycle supply, fleet preparation, route planning, accommodation advice, Christchurch Airport transport, luggage storage, rider briefings, local guide options, support vehicle arrangements and on-road assistance. Commercial operators are also welcome to use our Christchurch office for group briefing, bike handover, paperwork, luggage sorting and pre-tour preparation.

This means your company can keep control of your customer relationship, tour brand and guide team, while Epic Ride NZ provides the local bikes, logistics and New Zealand riding knowledge behind the scenes. Whether you need rental bikes only or a more complete ground-operation package, we can help make your New Zealand motorcycle tour smoother, safer and easier to run.

How far in advance should a group book motorcycles in New Zealand?

For group motorcycle rentals in New Zealand, we recommend booking as early as possible, especially if your group is travelling during the peak riding season from November to March.

Larger groups need more bikes, more accommodation rooms and sometimes guide or support vehicle availability, so early planning gives you the best chance of securing the right bike models and itinerary. For major events such as the Burt Munro Challenge, groups should book even earlier because motorcycles and accommodation in the South Island can sell out quickly.

For shoulder-season travel in April, May, September or October, availability is often better, and your group may enjoy quieter roads, better accommodation options and more flexible pricing.

What riding experience does a group need for a New Zealand motorcycle tour?

New Zealand motorcycle tours are suitable for many types of riders, but the right route and bike choice depend on each rider’s experience level.

New Zealand roads are often narrow, winding and scenic. A 250–300 km day can feel longer than expected because of mountain passes, changing weather, photo stops and technical corners. For mixed-experience groups, we usually recommend shorter riding days, lighter bikes for less confident riders, and routes that avoid unnecessary pressure.

Experienced riders may enjoy longer days, adventure bikes and more remote South Island roads. Less experienced riders may be more comfortable on lighter motorcycles such as the CF Moto 450MT, Honda CMX500 Rebel or Yamaha MT-03, depending on licence requirements and riding style.

Can a group choose different motorcycle models?

Yes. Your group does not need to ride the same motorcycle model. In many cases, choosing different bikes is the best option.

Every rider has a different height, confidence level, luggage requirement and riding preference. Some riders may prefer larger adventure touring bikes such as BMW GS models, KTM adventure bikes or Yamaha Tenere 700. Others may prefer lighter or more budget-friendly options such as the CF Moto 450MT, Suzuki DL650 V-Strom, Honda CMX500 Rebel or Yamaha MT-03.

Matching the bike to the rider helps improve comfort, safety and confidence, especially on longer South Island motorcycle tours.

Can Epic Ride NZ help with luggage, airport pickup and pre-tour briefing?

Yes. Epic Ride NZ can help make the first and last day of your group motorcycle trip much easier.

We can assist with Christchurch Airport pickup and drop-off by arrangement, and luggage storage is available for riders who want to leave suitcases behind while touring. This is especially useful for overseas groups arriving with riding gear, helmets, travel bags and personal luggage.

Before departure, we can provide a group briefing covering bike handover, luggage setup, road rules, fuel stops, weather, safety notes and route advice. Starting from our Christchurch base gives the group time to get organised before heading out on the road.
